Résumé – Getting yours right

Getting your résumé right

You have very little time to make an impression. A 2016 study revealed that 68% of people responsible for hiring staff spent less than two minutes reading each résumé they receive.

Over-used words and phrases were a major frustration reported by the majority of human resources managers.

These include:

Self-motivated
Team player
Thought leadership
Thinking outside the box

Instead of these worn out phrases, choose positive, successful sounding words like:

Improved
Negotiated
Mentored
Won
Created

And don’t be afraid to use good quality images and graphics.

Anything that gives your résumé more impact will improve your chance of success.

Review your résumé

Review it and replace any over-used words and phrases with more modern, active language.

Insert one or two graphic elements – pictures, charts or illustrations – that help to breathe life in to your document.
