The herd instinct for animals can be a life-saver

Herd instinct. Sometimes what seems like a good idea can be a disaster.

Herd instinct. Sometimes what seems like a good idea can be a disaster.

The tendency for animals, including human ones, to behave in the same way can be a life-saver. In the wild, predators seek out the youngest and weakest animals, rather than attacking the whole group.

As humans we have a distinct advantage: the power of critical thought. This means we don’t have to sacrifice our independence merely to maintain group cohesion.

Think about this when making up your mind about controversial matters, such as whether to use a vaccine, for example, or whether to take your business fully online.

Beware of groupthink and the bandwagon effect. Study only reliable independent data. Ignore social media and other sources of pseudo consensus and base your decisions on self-interest, not on peer pressure
